Sony Ericsson W958c Mobile Phone

Sony Ericsson W200

Sony Ericsson W44S

As with Samsung's U740, Sony-Ericsson's newly announced W44S (to be offered by Japanese provider AU) will feature a pivoting screen that switches between portrait and landscape modes to assist with viewing landscape images. Unlike earlier phones, however, the CDMA-based W44S is designed by Sony-Ericsson as a near-complete replacement for many other portable devices and is the very first Japanese phone to include a tuner for digital broadcast radio.

The handset further includes a wide screen with a Bravia processing engine, a 1Seg tuner for Japan's native mobile TV format, and support for FeliCa smartcard technology that can be used to shop and gain secure access from the phone itself. Owners can additionally buy music and videos from KDDI's Lismo direct download service. AU will carry the W44S in Japan by mid-December but has not listed the price.

Sony Ericsson new Walkman phone W880i

The Sony Ericsson W880i is an ultra-slim and exceptionally light 3G phone at just 9.5mm thick and an astonishing 72 grams in weight. The light weight is more surprising given that the W880i has a stainless steel finish.

The display is a 1.8" 240x320 pixel TFT panel in 262,000 colour, and the W880i has a two megapixel primary camera with a secondary camera for video calls. A 1GB Memory Stick Micro card is included in the box, which by our calculations is enough for about 16 albums worth of high-quality audio. The W880i has stereo Bluetooth and an enhanced version of the Walkman player.

The W880i is a UMTS 2100 MHz 3G phone with tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM, but there's no word of a "W880a" version for North America. The W888c is a non 3G tri-band GSM version of the W880i with the video calling camera omitted, aimed at mainland China.

Talktime on GSM is quoted as 6.5 hours with 17 days standby time and up to 20 hours of music playback. 3G use and Bluetooth will reduce the battery life, of course.

The other features on the Sony Ericsson W880i are very similar to other handsets in the current crop of "Walkman" phones - there's a web browser, email client (with push capabilities), RSS newsreader, speakerphone, video streaming and of course a comprehensive multimedia player.

There are some compromises with the Sony Ericsson W880i though - the main one is the size of the screen. Although it's a 240x320 pixel display, it is only 1.8", compared with the 1.9" display on the lower end W610i and display sizes of over 2.0" on many other phones.. however, the slightly smaller screen has advantages in weight and power consumption. There's no flash on the main camera (and 3.2 megapixels would have been much nicer), and unlike some other "Walkman" phones, the W880i doesn't have an FM radio. The other missing feature is the lack of quad-band GSM and the W880i doesn't have EDGE support either - so this is very much aimed at UMTS 2100 users only. This is nit-picking really - if you want some of these features in a Sony Ericsson "Walkman" phone, then you have plenty of other choices available.

In terms of looks, the W880i combines Sony Ericsson's typical understated design with a distinctly stylish finish. Combined with the ultra-slim form factor, and the W880i will clearly have plenty of "wow" factor. The W880i will come in two colour schemes of "Steel Silver" and "Flame Black".

Sony Ericsson say that the W880i should be available in the first quarter of 2007 in selected markets.

Sony Ericsson K770 Cyber-shot Phone

Sony Ericsson have been doing very well in sales recently - last Christmas they hit the number one spot in some European markets, ahead of Nokia. The reason for this was their strong line-up of Walkman and Cyber-shot handsets - and the Sony Ericsson K770i is the latest in this long line of phones, due to hit the market this autumn.

The Sony Ericsson K770i is a lightweight 3G phone, coming in at 95 grams and just 14.5mm thick. There's a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, plus a 1.9" 240x320 pixel display.

Sony Ericsson K770i Because it's a Cyber-shot branded phone, the K770i comes with more than just a camera. There's a built-in "photo fix" application for helping to adjust those pictures that just didn't quite come out correctly. Plus the K770i has stereo Bluetooth, FM radio, Memory Stick Micro expandable memory (256Mb included in the box), a multimedia player, an email client, web browser and RSS reader. If you're familiar with previous Cyber-shot branded phones, then you'll know what to expect.

Sony Ericsson are quoting an astonishing 10 hours talktime when used on GSM, but this drops down to 2.5 hours when used on a 3G network. Standby time in either mode is a maximum of 16 days which is impressive.

t appears to be a good phone, but apart from the slightly peculiar 1970s style brown colour there's very little that makes the K770i stand out from the increasingly crowded range of Sony Ericsson phones. There are a lot.. really a lot of Cyber-shot and Walkman phones in the range and Sony Ericsson are in danger of stretching the brand too far. Yes, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash is pretty good, but the K810i and K850i are much better imaging phones and are far more worthy of the "Cyber-shot" branding.

Still, the K770i is unlikely to disappoint, with it's compact frame and unfussy good looks. Just don't expenct people to go "wow" when they see it - the K770i is far too understated to be a head-turner. Sony Ericsson say that the K770i will be available in selected markets from the autumn.

Sony Ericsson PXi Concept

Bogar Bence designer has introduced a concept of Sony Ericsson PXi mobile phone. The developer designed it for convenient use by both lefties and righties. The device is equipped with a 3.3-inch touchscreen display, which supports automatic screen orientation when rotating. You can control it with the stylus and fingers. In addition the SE PXi features a dual slot, a 5-megapixel Cybershot camera and stereo speakers. For now we have just a concept phone under the Sony Ericsson brand for left-handed users. It’s not clear whether the company plans to launch the device.

Sony Ericsson P3i

The rumors about Sony Ericsson P3i smartphone has been flying around the net for a while now. Looks like Sony Ericsson have a new UIQ messenger device that will be launching soon. Apparently it will be a P3i under the P series. According to the thumbnail leaked from MSN China, the P3i could be an alternate based on the Elena prototype (like the P1i). Software updates are expected but we are keeping an eye on this story for you. More on it soon.

Sony Ericsson 3G Z610 / Z610i

Sony Ericsson officially presents the Z610 as the "shimmering ‘mirror’ clamshell with hidden depths", I do not know if that is suppose to good or bad, but I'll consider it as a compliment to their new cellphone. Actually, the Z610 looks like fantastic in terms of design and the features are not top notch but they aren't bad either.

The hidden 'magic mirrow' display is probably the most coolest things in the design, it is considered hidden because the external display that uses OLED technology will only be revealed when the phone receives a call or any type of message, other than that the display will be invisible - the effect produced by this magic must be really nice to watch. To give it a jewelry status, a mirror finish was applied on the front cover of the cellphone. Comes with a normal 2.0Megapixel camera which will work perfectly in coordination with the Picture Blog application, just a couple of clicks to upload your photos to a blog and they will be live on the internet to share with friends. The 3G technology is also supported, it comes in handy when there is a 2-inch screen to make use of on videocalls, not to talk about Push Email and RSS feed support when making use of the internet.

The Sony Ericsson Z610 will become available during Autumn in 3 different colors: black, pink or blue.

Sony Ericsson K790 & K800 "Cybershot" Phones

First we saw the "Walkman" range of Sony Ericsson phones, and now Sony Ericsson present the "Cybershot" range, using another Sony sub-brand to apply to this new range of 3.2 megapixel camera phones.

The K790 and K800 are almost identical, except the K800 (pictured) is a 3G phone with a secondary video camera (in the top grille), and the K790 is an EDGE handset. All other characteristics are the same.

The main feature with the K790 and K800 is the camera - a 3.2 megapixel unit with autofocus, an image stabilizer, Xenon flash and Bluetooth printing. There's a neat feature called "BestPic", which takes 9 pictures at once so you can choose the best one.

Go beyond the camera, and this is a pretty typical high-end camera phone, with a 240x320 pixel display in 262,000 colours, Bluetooth, expandable memory on Memory Stick Micro cards, an FM radio, WAP 2.0 browser, email client, MP3 player, QuickShare plus an RSS news reader (Mobile Gazette also carries an RSS feed).

It's a pretty standard size for a candy bar, at 105x47x22mm and 115 grams. The physical dimensions are the same for the 3G and EDGE models. Talktime on GSM is 7 hours with 14 days standby, on 3G this drops to 2.5 hours talktime. In terms of looks, the SE K790 and K800 looks like a typical Sony Ericsson device, although it's not the most exciting looking handset in Sony Ericsson's range, although the back of the K790/K800 does look suitably like a digital camera.

The K790 will be available in a K790a 850/1800/1900 MHz GSM configuration for the Americas, a K790c 900/1800/1900 MHz model for mainland China, plus a K790i 900/1800/1900 model for the rest of the world. The K800 will be available in two UMTS 2100 plus 900/1800/1900 GSM configurations, the K800c for China and the K800i for the rest of the world.

It's all very well branding a phone with "Cybershot", but it doesn't necessarily mean that the camera is any good. However, the Sony Ericsson K750's 2 megapixel camera is widely regarded as being one of the best around, so the 3.2 megapixel unit in the K790 and K800 looks very promising indeed.

Sony Ericsson say that both models should be available from Q2 2006 in the pictured "Velvet Black" colour.

Sony NW-S710F

The LG KG290 Slider Phone was released earlier this month after much anticipation. This slider phone is small and slim enough to slip comfortably in your pocket, and features a nice 1.7-inch TFT color screen, and a numerical keypad that slides out vertically. A 1.3-megapixel camera is also included in the phone, which is also capable of recording video. An FM radio is integrated into the phone as well.

One complaint that has so far emerged about the phone online in comments by users is the fact that it does not come pre-packaged with a USB cord, so if you're thinking about buying one you'll likely need to get a USB cable of your own that works with the phone.

Talk time on the LG KG290 is up to 200 hours stand-by, and up to 2-hours of talk-time. The phone is available in two color choices: black and grey. It is currently available in Japan.

Sanyo M1 Released for Sprint

Sprint today announced the full-channel availability of the Sanyo M1, Sprint's first phone with 1GB of internal memory. Able to offer storage for up to 16 hours of music and other multimedia files including pictures, video clips and voice recording, the M1 also provides quick and easy access to Sprint-exclusive content, including:

Sony Ericsson has announced a new Walkman phone with tri-band HSDPA, the W760, giving you the broadband speed downloads of the latest music and content wherever in the world.

The phone has a built-in GPS with Wayfinder Navigator to help you find the way out when you are lost, giving a search of over 20 million points of interest around the globe. There’s a GPS-supported fitness application called Tracker which can tell you how fast, how long and how far you ran.

With the built-in stereo speakers, you can share your favorite tunes with your friends and the best part, it is preloaded with the latest hit games, including the Need for Speed ProStreet. The phone also comes with the skip control where you can shuffle and skip through tracks or shake it to adjust volume.
